The Mattia Bonetti Dialogue
Born and raised in Lugano Switzerland, Mattia Bonetti moved to Paris in 1973, after finishing his studies at the Centro Scolastico per l’Industria Artistica. He started out as a photographer and textile designer before focusing in to furniture and interior design, in 1979.
Mattia Bonetti is known for creating innovative pieces of furniture that are as much works of fine art as they are utilitarian objects, while transforming the barrier between art and design in to a creative dialogue.
He employs a wide range of materials, often in surprising ways, as with Drops Table where walnut wood and acrylic resin are integrated seamlessly to produce a visually striking yet fully functional dining table.
Mr. Bonetti has created limited-edition and one-off furniture and objects, designed for private and public environments in France and abroad, and a selection of industrial products.
His work is characterized by its fantastic and dramatic nature, always beginning as freehand sketches, which are then realized by the same craftsmen Bonetti has worked with for decades.
Every design, whether it be a sofa or a simple box, combines a sense of whimsy and glamour with a distinctive intelligence and originality.
Designs constantly evolving with effortless creativity, Bonetti’s work can always be described as an expression of luxury, while retaining a futurist vision that is decidedly optimistic.
