TRIBECA AERIE
Three years ago the AD100 Architectural Digest designer Monique Gibson, walked into the terrace of this penthouse apartment in Tribeca and her jaw dropped in amazement. Perfectly centered on New York’s east-west axis, the duplex takes in panoramic views from the East River to the Hudson and, on clear days, sight lines north all the way to Central Park.
It was taken by the apartment’s unique rough-edged glamour, which featured a soulful combination of industrial vintage fixtures, Art Deco furniture, and sumptuous beige upholstery, along with a fearless abundance of glossy black finishes.
The challenge was to translate the feeling of creative urbanity, more naturally suited to an old loft building with exposed brick walls and exposed pipes, to a classically inspired newly constructed high-rise.

Monique Gibson is the queen of creature comforts. Easygoing in effect but exacting in execution, this attention to detail is just a taste of the treatment Gibson, an AD100 Architectural Digest interior designer lavishes on her loyal clients.
There are a few things that the AD100 Architectural Digest designer has held on to through the years, however. Among them is the living room’s pair of Hiroshi Asada paintings, given to her by Elton John. The room’s Asplund chair is the first piece of furniture she ever bought for herself at auction, and a petite Louis XVI antique once served as her first desk chair.

Terri Henning, a Charleston businesswoman has called the AD100 Architectural Digest designer Monique to schedule an interview. She needed an environment that would help her to feel both comforted and confident where she could begin again, regroup, and achieve her dreams.
The Charleston Apartment had been gutted; it was a raw open space with concrete floors and steel beams and nothing else. From her taste in sleek automobiles, Monique knows that she can make herself a connoisseur of beautiful furniture.

TRIBECA LOFT
The couple owner of this spacious duplex loft envisions a tranquil environment where they could raise their family. At the same time, they want it to be creative without too much “visual noise” or distraction. With a very specific request for “no color” and at the same time they want their home to feel cozy and textured.
The all-white space took on a new depth with the simple trick of staining the window surrounding a dark shade. However, their two children had a very different ideas of what constitutes domestic bliss. With this in mind, the AD100 Architectural Digest Designer designed the bed to look like a birdhouse and paired it with the sweetest wallpaper with little birds perched on trees.
This modern aviary was in contrast, of course, to the parts of the loft that the kids share with their parents. Furniture and accessories in natural materials like walnut, linen, boiled wool, and cashmere made the neutral space feel grounded. Even here there were playful touches: the minimalist kitchen, where the open shelving is in live-edge reclaimed wood, got a backsplash in chalkboard slate.
