Castellani was the Italian jeweler initiating the archaeological revival movement in the mid-nineteenth century. The brand Castellani’s was founded by Fortunato Pio Castellani that opened up a shop in Rome in 1814. According to jewelry historians, Michaelango Caetani, his friend and collaborator “gave Fortunato Pio the idea to imitate and seek inspiration from Ancient jewelers.” Caetani was a Dante scholar, a historian, a talented woodworker and an artist familiar with jewelry manufacturing techniques. He was also a darling of Roman high society. Castellanis is a history icon and transformed jewelry into pieces of fine art.
