When you’re aiming for the very highest quality, it’s going to be a limited item. Just finding a piece of travertine this large and this beautiful is a limited possibility(…). As a trained architect and an art lover, I am guided by three fundamental principles: proportion, elegance, and comfort. With this new collection I seek to achieve the same balance between purity of forms, simplicity of volumes, and functionality, as I embark on a new quest to create timeless design.
Following simple design codes, the new design collection includes armchairs, sofas, stools, chandeliers, floor and table lamps, coffee tables, and desks. The Parisian interior designer is known for his elegantly understated interiors that expertly combine vintage treasures with contemporary art and design pieces. Now, Charles Zana presents a sneak peek at an art fair of what he has been working on for the past months.
With a mix of styles and forms, the pieces embody characteristics from Jean-Michael Frank’s materials to Pierre Chareau’s forms and Gio Ponti’s curves. Charles Zana worked closely with French craftspeople to present this design collection.
I thought, maybe by October the pandemic will have calmed down, and FIAC will be happening, and I can show the furniture I’ve been creating in these incredible rooms. I wanted big floor lamps, like you had in the 1970s—I think this is the thing now. I was in Corsica over the summer, watching how the local people wove the baskets to catch sea urchins and such. I’ve translated that into something beautiful for the home.
A bronze chandelier, a silver wall lamp, and a sleek solid oak sofa are some of the pieces Charles Zana presented at FIAC Paris. Besides, Venetian traditions are also present in this new debut with a glass lantern, while a modern desk presents a sleek and simple silhouette. Standing in the middles of a historical and contemporary design, the timeless pieces stand out among French-Israeli artist Nathanaëlle Herbelin’s paintings.
