Exquisite Jewellery Trends For 2019

A wave of shells, piles of layering and a cornucopia of futuristic ear cuffs – here are the jewellery trends spotted on the New York, London, Milan and Paris Spring/Summer 2019 runways that you’ll be wearing in no time.

Michael Kors set the tone in New York for this jewellery trends with his beach towels stamped with the MK Beach Club logo, held by models that wore glistening shell-shaped rings and pendants. In Milan, Etro made the temperature rise with their surf spirit runway, inspired by Californian vibes and complete with shell earrings bordered by pearls. Joseph Altuzarra took us on a Caribbean escape and went for a more audacious look with shredded belts and fishnet dresses, accessorized with crafted shell necklaces.

Getting an ear cuff

This season, earrings took on a new dimension. Margiela went simple, Mugler loved a futuristic look and Fendi was a fan of sportswear. Our next jewellery trends must-haves are the XXL ear-wear at Balmain and the futuristic eighties look at Miu Miu, which seemed to defy gravity and form a type of couture armour.

Avant-garde revolution

Exquisite Jewellery Trends For 2019 (4)

It’s the moment every jewellery enthusiast lives for: a designer comes along with an ultra-creative twist on regular accessories and changes the industry standard. This season three avant-garde propositions caught our attention; the neon reinterpretation of bourgeois earrings at Marine Serre, the neck brace choker at Loewe and the new-age French horn necklace from Y/Project.

Pile on the necklaces

An accumulation of necklaces that would thrill any jewellery lover. The layering jewellery trends was perfected by Paco Rabanne this season, with medallions designed by Charlotte Chesnais, leading the charge. Mixing and matching gave a vintage allure at Alexander McQueen and Giambattista Valli utilized unusual stones for standout pieces.

Crescent moon hoops

Exquisite Jewellery Trends For 2019 (6)

The must-have accessory at Valentino, worn by 90s model Kristen McMenamy, golden crescent-moon hoops were an unexpected jewellery trend this season. A variation on the hoops that we saw last summer, Prabal Gurung updated designer Tasaki’s usual pearl look with balancing crescents and at Y/Project XXL hoops seemed to be sliced with a laser.

A night out on the town

Exquisite Jewellery Trends For 2019 (9)

Who needs a disco ball when you’ve got these earrings? Givenchy decided to emulate mobiles which are sure to catch every light they’re under. Balenciaga opted for super-cute sparkling hearts and Jacquemus designed literal glitter balls that will liven up any dancefloor.

All chained up

Exquisite Jewellery Trends For 2019 (1)

Virgil Abloh seems to be obsessed with chains, which have been seen at Off-White’s menswear show as well as at Louis Vuitton and even Off-White’s womenswear in XXL versions. The key to their success? The industrial look that leans itself to layering or can equally be worn as a statement piece.

Say your name

Exquisite Jewellery Trends For 2019 (3)

Logo looks are sticking around for a little longer. Chanel dominated the name-dropping jewellery look, with sparkling earrings spelling out their name (one syllable in each ear). The Carrie Bradshaw effect took over at Balenciaga, with dainty logo necklaces and at Burberry, gold earrings offered a more subtle to rock the jewellery trend.

You and who’s arm cuff?

Exquisite Jewellery Trends For 2019 (3)

Natacha Ramsay-Levi revived our love for this ancient-inspired accessory at her first Chloé show. Since then the arm cuff has flown the flag for Chloé. At Saint Laurent, a bejewelled serpent arm cuff was spotted, glittering under the night sky in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, likewise, at Giambattista Valli, rawer more natural stones stole the show and arty sun-shapes were seen at Rodarte.

Second wind

Exquisite Jewellery Trends For 2019 (7)

Double usage accessories were everywhere this season paired with an overtone of fun. At Burberry, we spotted the passport/necklace combination and then there were fork earrings and even a purse that moonlights as a bracelet (try losing that on a night out). Designers gave new meaning to menial objects, creating charming and super playful accessories. Our personal favourite was the komboloï, seen at Tory Burch, which is a Greek necklace thought to possess anti-stress qualities.

Wild Wild West

Exquisite Jewellery Trends For 2019 (2)

We hardened ourselves in the Western wind that took over the Fall/Winter 2018-2019 runways, and it appears this jewellery trends is going nowhere. Feathers aplenty were aligned with a vibe of independent style at Louis Vuitton, Longchamp and even took on tribal at Loewe.

The ‘so fetch’ 00s revival

Exquisite Jewellery Trends For 2019 (8)

Marni and Stella McCartney had ankle bracelets, Etro had an abundance of surfer necklaces and Chloé went full-on 00s with toe rings. Goodbye 90s revival! A new nostalgic wave is breaking.

New-age chokers

Exquisite Jewellery Trends For 2019 (2)

A natural evolution from the deluge of chokers seen during Spring/Summer 2019 and the tight necklaces seen during Fall/Winter 2018-2019. Ranging from rigid tubes and pops of colour to rhinestone-laden looks. Chokers never left, but they did transform.
