The well-respected Italian interior design magazine Cabana, have just collaborated with Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele, to create a beautifully crafted Gucci collection of chairs. Carved into a typically Italian Chiavari shape, Michele created the six chairs exclusively for the magazine and they’re made with different animal-inspired Gucci fabrics complete with black lacquered wooden frames.
As part of the collaboration, there’s also a limited-edition box set, which is based on the magazine’s theme for the issue ‘Roman Portfolio’. The limited-edition box set consists of 64 luxury interior images. Think images of Italy’s breathtaking architecture, which have been shot by the famed interior and fashion photographer, Guido Taroni. The box comes complete with a cover that has been injected with Gucci’s signature fabrics, which were chosen by Michele himself.

The magazine rejects a lot of the trend towards sleek, modern minimalism, instead gesturing back to a golden age of lush Italian design. The items which Cabana features are a feast for the senses with their intricate and emotive patterns, their warm and welcoming color schemes.
Most recently, Martina Mondadori, editor in chief of Cabana, sensed that she and Michele shared an aesthetic vision and so asked Michele to create a special product just to be featured in the magazine. The result is a series of six chairs designed in a traditional Italian style called Chiavari.
The Gucci chairs accompany a “mood board” also curated by Michele that highlights the beauty of Rome, the city in which he was born and raised and which continues to influence his creativity. “The idea was really to chose different rooms, different places — sacred or private ones — maybe a hidden corner, where he takes all his flea market finds and has them restored,” said Mondadori. The special edition of Cabana is, then, something of a love letter to traditional Italian art and design.
Extending the Gucci aesthetic to a collection of bespoke chairs, the designer’s collaboration with Cabana is exclusively available on online marketplace 1stDibs.

Martina Mondadori Sartogo, editor and founder of interior design title Cabana, is among the fashion lovers who are transfixed with Mr. Michele’s work at Gucci and how his designs have essentially breathed new life into the fashion house after years of declining status. Their mutual affection for beautiful things and classic design resulted in Mr. Michele collaborating on a special edition of Cabana full of unpublished content.
Each of the Gucci chair’s upholstered seats features embroidered animals seen within Mr. Michele’s Gucci collections. These include a rabbit, a bird, a tiger, two different snakes and the newest Gucci iconography, the honey bee motif.
