The Irish designer and artisan Joseph Walsh teamed up with London’s Sarah Myserscough Gallery to release the ‘Dommus’ collection – a family of expressive and durable furniture pieces, all handmade from walnut and ebony by Walsh himself. Available in limited edition, the furniture was a seamless complement to Walsh’s successful sculptural practice.

Joseph Walsh and Sarah Myerscough Gallery launched at The Salon Art + Design, New York 2017, the Dommus collection, limited edition luxury furniture pieces aimed at the domestic environment. The collection, derived from the Latin word Domus meaning dwelling, consists of an elegant grouping of refined walnut and ebonised walnut pieces: a cleft wood cabinet, an organic sculptural table and twisted laminated wood chairs.

The pieces encapsulate the quality of making, the diversity of unique and innovative woodworking processes and represent Joseph Walsh Studio’s expressive creative journey. Each piece is handcrafted and yet designed for a specific and practical purpose that gives a refined and elegant character and relates to the others in a beautifully orchestrated manner.

This new body of work of limited edition pieces, created exclusively for Sarah Myerscough Gallery, was designed in order to capture the essence of the private home in contrast to the studio’s commissioned site-specific pieces and large-scale installations. These include this year’s major commission consisting of an ash-made sculpture entitled Magnus Modus for The National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin, and a monumental commission of 24 unique sculptural chairs for Chatsworth House.
