Luxury culture: L’Esprit Dior
Dior has partnered with the Museum of Contemporary Art in Shanghai, China, in an exhibit entitled “Esprit Dior” to display brand history in relation to art, fashion, society and culture.
Until November 10, visitors can delight themselves with approximately 100 Dior dresses, sketches, objects of art, jewelry and perfumes from throughout Dior’s history borrowed exceptionally from the house archives. At the same time, they can appreciate paintings, sculptures, videography and photography created by contemporary Chinese artists such as Yan Lei, Yan Pei-Ming, Zheng Guogu and Liu Jianhua.
Exhibiting Dior’s history alongside the works of art of contemporary Chinese artists aims to create a conversation between fashion and aesthetics and between fashion and society.
Photographs by Patrick Demarchelier guide the visitor through the themes and pieces exhibited, which are divided into capsules which include “The Dior Look,” “The Dior Garden,” “Dior and Artists” , “Stars in Dior”, “J’adore”, among others. All were created to explore the brand’s historical and cultural references.
