The 58th edition of Salone del Mobile came up with an astonishing concept. Milan will be the city that will host this design exhibition and art fair. But the most important part: it will celebrate and evoke its roots with a homage to its most brilliant and charismatic figures that ever existed: Leonardo da Vinci. The Italian artist is recognized nowadays as the “adopted son”, and this year, during Milan Design Week, Salone del Mobile pays tribute to his supreme and incredible mind and talent.
This contemporary design show never ceases to amaze its own audience, so this April, while you are visiting the honorable and long awaited for furniture fair with the most exclusive design, prepare to be completely speechless by two outstanding and hugely amazing installations that will absolutely provide to you the most unforgettable and cultural experience in Milan.
The 2019 edition of the Milan Furniture Fair will exhibit unique pieces by luxury brands and will pay tribute to the genius of Leonardo da Vinci in the 500th anniversary of his death.
Every April the world’s eyes turn to Milan and from the 6th to 14th April, Salone del Mobile, Milano has chosen the Conca dell’Incoronata canal lock and the water as the protagonists of the traditional city event, AQUA, Leonardo’s Vision.
The second exhibition is at the fairgrounds, in Pavilion 24, DE-SIGNO. The main goal of these two exhibitions is to honor the art of the Italian design since its early roots and to pay homage to Leonardo and celebrate his work and legacy when it comes to art and design, and craftsmanship.

The first exhibition, “AQUA” celebrates the originality and visionary mind of Da Vinci’s studies, and “DE-SIGNO” explores the amazingness of the Made in Italy fine art pieces, design products, and craftsmanship, comparing it from the furniture made during the times of the great Master to the present day, compiling all the spectacular contemporary design we’re all so used to see at Salone del Mobile.

“AQUA, Leonardo’s Vision” is a site-specific immersive experience. The Conca will be covered over with an architectural insert in the form of a great expanse of water, on the edge of which a huge LED screen will become a window onto a future Milan, showing a skyline that changes according to the time of day. Beneath this structure, inside the canal itself, a wunderkammer (cabinet of curiosities) will be created, where visitors can experience all the beauty, energy and shape of water, enfolded in image and sound thanks to the use of cutting-edge technology, in a totally self-contained environment.
An information foyer by the Ponte Delle Gabelle will provide a space where waiting visitors can discover more about the connection between this historic site and Leonard’s multifaceted genius. Salone del Mobile is more than an art fair that welcomes the great furniture brands of our contemporary times, so come visit the place where the Italian Master created most of his memorable works and come live a one for the books experience!
