Before passing away on 19 February at the age of 85, Karl Lagerfeld and his successor Virginie Viard had already prepared everything for what would turn out to be the fashion designer’s final Chanel runway show. During this Chanel show, models walked on stage wearing pieces that had the luxury brand‘s most famous prints and gloriously walked through the fake snow wearing the long luxurious coats, and faux fur knitwear.
The Grand Palais Paris was transformed into a complete Winterland, highly envisioned to resemble the wonderful snow-topped ski chalets. Named Chalet Gardenia, this whole scenario was imagined by the late Karl Lagerfeld and his successor, and together, the duo designed a runway completely “buried” by snow where you could admire the most perfect alpine place with lamp posts, tiny chalets with chimneys, a never-ending snowy path and much more, so it would feel the absolute most real.
This peaceful village was created for the latest Chanel clothing line, the Autumn/Winter 2019 collection. Chanel-branded skis and poles stuck in the ground completed the alpine look, set against a painted backdrop of a bright blue sky and snowy mountain peaks. It all began with a minute of silence for the late Karl Lagerfeld, followed by a recording of his voice talking about the beauty of the French fashion, and the evolution of it.
The famous model Cara Delevingne was the opening walk, entering the runway with an oversized houndstooth coat and one of Chanel’s most iconic and signature checked pieces.
Matching the entire scenario, the models were using modern ski outfits with a twist, and down jackets were paired with wide-cut trousers in a checked tweed pattern of three colors. Karl Lagerfeld‘s final Chanel show had present Chanel’s so iconic winter palette of white, beige, black and navy blue with some hints of other warms colors such as purple, fuchsia, brick and emerald green.
The final evening looks were some skirts and dress in chiffon and feathers with garments embroidered with snowflakes, accessorized with white pearl earring to enhance the whole “icy adventure”.
