In a relaxation showdown amongst trains, planes, and automobiles, trains win as the most laidback style of travel, allowing you to sit back, relax, and enjoy the view. Luckily, some of the world’s most expensive destinations are also home to the most scenic train rides. Here’s a look at 10 exceptionally and expensive train journeys.
Launching in May 2017, Train Suite Shiki-Shima will traverse north-eastern Japan. Up to 34 passengers will be accommodated in a modern and elegant 10-carriage train with two observations cars, a collection of two storey suites with individual toilets and showers and fine-dining restaurant.
The Twilight Express Mizukaze will also be launched in Spring 2017 and it will accommodate just 30 passengers and feature a signature suite that occupies an entire trains carriage and comes complete with capacious bathroom incorporating a standalone roll-top bath.

The most luxurious trains currently serving Japan is Kyushu Seven Stars. ts cabins are decorated with aromatic hinoki cypress wood, bamboo blinds and Japanese paper screens.
The train has 12 en-suite rooms and two luxury suites, and on longer trips guests might have the opportunity to stay in a traditional ryokan and enjoy an onsen hot-spring bath.
The Belmont Venice Simplon-Orient-Express journeys from London to cities including Vienna and Prague. Dating from the 1920s, the restored trains feature carriages decorated with art deco marquetry.
European cuisine is served in the restaurant cars, with chefs selecting fresh produce en route.

The Royal Scotsman is the UK’s only luxury sleeper train. Carrying 36 guests, it offers special experiences such as the Royal Scotsman Classic Whisky Tour.
South Africa-based Rovos Rail offers eight separate routes through the continent, with separate itineraries encompassing safaris in Namibia or Durban.
Complemented by South African wines, meals are taken in Victorian-style dining cars.
Traveling between Darwin and Adelaide, the Ghan train service slices the ochre-hued center of Australia, with stops at Alice Springs, where helicopter tours can be arranged, and Katherine Route.
