Luxury Furniture Behind The Scenes: The Leaf Gilding Technique
The new edition of Legacy Magazine is a design and craftmanship testimony, this second edition aims to honour and elevate every designer and craftsmen, artists in this journey and show the world the lost art of craftsmanship and Luxury Furniture through their eyes and voices, today we will explore the art of Leaf Gilding.
The gold leaf is available in a wide variety of karats and shades and different techniques can be chosen. Architecture is also one of the creative fields that rely on leaf ’s rich look on buildings and design components, evoking unique moments of rare opulence. Boca do Lobo have always paid tribute to this ancient technique and different leafs can be unveiled in several luxury furniture pieces along the collection like the imposing Gold screen. Layer by layer, this is a time consuming and very detailed technique but at the end, the texture, depth, and richness are truly worthy.
Pieces like the fanciful and legendary Pixel pay tribute to this fine art, it features 1088 triangles in gold, copper and silver leaves. It also unveils an exquisite technique of silver leaf finished with a luxurious shade of translucent different colors with high gloss varnish on top. A playful way to give a contemporary touch and to carry the dedication of those who built it. The tradition of working with noble materials is part of our DNA. The traditional water gilding is the most difficult way but it remains unchanged for hundreds of years, and it is still done by hand in our studio.

DIAMOND EMERALD SIDEBOARD
Like the amethyst Diamond, the sideboard also features three highly sculptured doors leading to a gold leaf interior with shelving and two drawers. The exterior of this fanciful piece is now presented in silver leaf finished with a luxurious shade of translucent green emerald with high gloss varnish. And instead of the whimsical lion’s head feet, the new diamond presents a base made from mahogany lined with a bronze mirror.
METROPOLIS CONSOLE
Metropolis console raises the level and expands the limits of design with a base of elegant composition and gracious lines. This exquisite table was designed to add a note of distinctive charm to a living room or a wide hall. Its base is handcrafted from mahogany and the top is framed in particleboard, which gives the black high gloss lacquer its texture appearance.
APOLLO MIRROR
Apollo is the most important Olympian God in ancient Greek, recognized as the god of light and sun. Apollo names this generously sized wall mirror featuring a highly decorative starburst shape, enhancing any home environment. The frame of this modern design mirror is totally sublime with the involved ornate carvings. The exterior frame, made from solid oak wood or mahogany and available in two finishes (silver or gold leaf), is composed of numerous sticks that lead to additional mirrors.
GOLD FOLDING SCREEN
Inspired by the Ancient Egyptians, the Gold Folding Screen is the representation of a flawlessly leaf gilding process.
